Topic: An Excellent Life (3)
Text: Daniel 6:3
Daniel 6:3
“Then this Daniel distinguished himself above the governors and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king gave thought to setting him over the whole realm”
The text highlights the excellence and brilliance of Daniel. The story of Daniel is that of a lowly slave who rose to the top of the political system in Babylon. His excellence was so profound that he remained relevant after Babylon was divided and given to the Medes and Persians.
We can also replicate the excellence and impact of Daniel if we are ready to do the things Daniel did. The main thing Daniel did when he arrived in Babylon as a mere slave was to stay with God and not defile himself. The interesting thing about staying with God and not defiling oneself is that the things that comes with it such as the fruits of the Spirit, are the ones that produce astonishing excellence. Verse 4 of the text says that the other administrators and high officers began searching for some fault in the way Daniel was handling government affairs, but they could not find anything to criticize or condemn. He was faithful, always responsible, and completely trustworthy.
The qualities mentioned – being faithful, responsible, and trustworthy – are attributes expected of Christians also today. Therefore, excellence is the natural expression of godly principles.
Conclusively, if we are willing to live our lives such that we put God first at all times, we can lead an excellent life effortlessly. Our Father in Heaven is the custodian of excellence.
Lesson for the day:
If Daniel could lead an excellent life, we can too, but we must put God first.
Prayer Point:
Father, please bless me with the spirit of excellence.
Hymn for the day:
1. Like the woman at the well
I was seeking
For things that could not satisfy
And then I heard my Savior speaking
“Draw from My well that never shall run dry.
Refrain:
“Fill my cup, Lord
I lift it up, Lord
Come and quench this thirsting of my soul
Bread of Heaven, feed me ’til I want no more
Fill my cup, fill it up and make me whole”
2. There are millions in this world
Who are craving
The pleasures, earthly things of gold
But none can match the wondrous treasure
That I find in Jesus Christ my Lord! [Refrain]
3. So my brother if the things that this world gives you
Leave hungers that won’t pass away,
My blessed Lord will come and save you
If you kneel to Him and humbly pray [Refrain]
Bible round the year:
Exodus 11 – 13
